Frequently Asked Questions About Deck Repair
Can I repair my deck myself, or should I hire a professional?
Simple repairs like replacing a few deck boards or tightening screws can often be DIY projects. However, structural repairs (like replacing posts, beams, or joists), or repairs involving the connection to the house, are best left to professionals with the expertise and tools to do the job safely and according to building codes.
Moisture- Rain, snow, and humidity can lead to rot, decay, and warping.
Sun exposure- UV rays can cause wood to fade, crack, and splinter. Insects:
Termites, carpenter ants, and other insects can damage wood decks.
Improper construction- Poorly built decks are more susceptible to problems.
Lack of maintenance- Neglecting regular cleaning and sealing can accelerate deterioration.
Why is regular deck maintenance important?
Regular maintenance helps prevent costly repairs down the road by protecting wood from rot, decay, and insect damage. More importantly, maintenance keeps the deck's structural integrity and safety in check. Cracks, splinters, and warping can also be prevented which can increase and maintain appearance. Keep your deck looking its best.
Frequently Asked Questions About Fence Repair
Simple repairs like replacing a few pickets or tightening screws can often be DIY projects. However, complex issues like leaning posts, structural damage, or large-scale repairs are best left to professionals with the expertise and tools to do the job safely and correctly.
How much does fence repair typically cost?
If unexpected damage is discovered, we will address it immediately and discuss your options. If you choose not to proceed, we will adjust your deposit and partially return it if applicable.
Regular maintenance is key. This includes applying a quality stain and sealer every few years, clearing vegetation away from the fence, and ensuring proper drainage around the posts.
Frequently Asked Questions About Wood Restoration & Staining
Wood restoration is the process of returning weathered, damaged, or neglected wood back to its original beauty and structural integrity. It often involves cleaning, stripping old finishes, and applying a premium stain and sealer that protects wood and dramatically improves appearance.
We combine two methods to remove old stubborn stains and paints that have failed, been sun-baked and cracked. High-strength stripping cleaners and light pressure washing are combined to remove the majority of old stain or paint. Once wood is dry, sanding is utilized to remove the remaining old finish.
When is a complete wood restoration necessary?
Restoration is needed when wood decking or fencing shows one or more of these signs:
- Significant signs of severe weathering (graying, cracking, splintering).
- Extensive rot or decay (soft spots, crumbling wood).
- Multiple layers of failing paint or stain.
- Insect damage (termite or carpenter ant activity).
Frequently Asked Questions About Wood Restoration & Staining
Cleaning, a major preparation step, is highly recommended before staining wood. Depending on the condition of your deck, the cleaning method and involvement varies.

One to five years. Exterior wood stain is exposed to harsh weather conditions, including sun, rain, and temperature fluctuations. This significantly reduces its lifespan compared to interior stain.
Western North Carolina faces many environmental challenges in particular; high humidity, significant temperature fluctuations, abundant rainfall, and UV exposure.
Frequently Asked Questions About Pressure Washing
When dealing with heavy mold, mildew, or algae growth, a diluted bleach solution may be used. Bleach is a powerful disinfectant and cleaning agent and is used carefully and in appropriate concentrations to avoid damaging surfaces, landscape, or harming the environment.
The core services included in a House Wash are cleaning exterior walls, trim and gutters (exterior), eaves and overhangs, and entryways.
Will pressure washing damage my house siding, concrete, or other surfaces?
No, proper pressure washing services will not cause damage to siding, concrete, or other surfaces. Our professional techniques and equipment give us control of water pressure and usage, and minimize risk to people and property when working.
Frequently Asked Questions About Soft Washing
Soft washing is a cleaning method that uses low pressure and specialized solutions to safely clean exterior surfaces. It's an alternative to traditional pressure washing, when the surface that needs to be cleaned require a delicate approach, such as cleaning an asphalt or metal galvalume roof.
The cleaning solution is applied to the roof and allowed to dwell for a specific time. This solution breaks down the organic growth at its root, effectively killing it.
A dirty roof, especially one with dark stains or heavy growth, absorbs more heat from the sun. This heat transfers into your attic and eventually into your home, making your air conditioner work harder to keep your home cool. A clean, light-colored roof reflects more sunlight, keeping your attic cooler and reducing the strain on your HVAC system.
